A Word on Dr. Fung’s Book The Diabetes Code

When we address the root cause of disease, only then can we begin to heal...No medication or magic pill will fix that.

A good example of this is seen with diabetes. Diabetes is a dietary disease and as Dr. Jason Fung puts it, “drugs will not cure a dietary disease.” We still treat diabetes with medications anyway. While medications effectively lower the blood sugar, it appears that a diabetic is getting better, when in reality their disease is getting worse (medications cover up the problem).

Type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant and when they are treated with insulin, it actually causes them to gain weight. If you have type 2 diabetes and you want to reverse it, the best advice would be to change your eating habits (avoid sugar in all forms, eat moderate amounts of protein [high protein taxes your liver and in excess amounts converts to sugar], eat vegetables and low starch/carbohydrate meals AND exercise [most are overweight]).

If you’re interested in learning more about reversing diabetes, Dr. Jason Fung’s book The Diabetes Code is a great start. He uses a great analogy regarding treating diabetes with medications:

You pick up all the trash around your house and shove it all under the bed. Then you keep adding more trash and storing it under the bed in the same place. While it appears like your house is clean, eventually the trash is going to rot and start smelling. Likewise, if your diabetic and you continue to eat sugar, don’t exercise and just treat your disease with medications, your organs will eventually fail. If this doesn’t paint a good enough picture, I don’t know what else will...
